In 1951, a group of federal employees founded the Caribe Federal Credit Union, a nonprofit institution organized and administered under the federal cooperative act. From the beginning, its intention has been to serve federal employees in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Today we are one of the largest and most solid federal cooperatives in Puerto Rico with over $384 million in assets. Our mission is to educate our members in order for them to make better financial decisions and further better their lives.
Our cooperative is insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA):
- The NCUA is an independent federal agency of the United States
- Regulates and supervises all federal cooperatives in the nation
We currently have an active membership that exceeds 28,000 members:
- We serve more than 75 private institutions in Puerto Rico through the Select Group Employees program
- We serve all the members of “Liga de Estudiantes de Arte de San Juan”
Our goal is to be the main institution of our members, not just an additional financial alternative. For this reason, we offer a variety of financial products and services, with the best interests and low service charges. In addition, we provide free services over the Internet and telephone, seven days a week and 24 hours a day.
At present, our chairman of the board of directors is Mr. Juan Masini Soler and our general manager is Mr. Jorge M. Vadell. We have a main branch in O’Neill Street in Hato Rey and three additional ones, one in Ave. Las Cumbres in Guaynabo, another in the Federal Building in Hato Rey and our new branch located in Ponce in Hostos Avenue.
Our ethical and moral guidelines
Cooperation: We work together as a large family to solve our problems.
Service: Our desire is to serve, not to be served.
Voluntarism: Our credit union is managed by a board of directors made up of volunteers, who meet monthly to discuss different aspects related to the institution and its members.
Plenitude: We believe in the combination of efforts to provide the best quality of services.
Democracy: Equality of rights for all partners. One member is equivalent to one vote.
Membership: Once a member, always a member.
Education: We believe in educating our members to make them aware of their rights and responsibilities.
